If you know that you need to have asbestos removal done on your home, you will want to know how a company generally does this before you hire one.

Thankfully, this is a service that is carried out by hundreds of different companies, and most of them follow a similar procedure.

Getting started with an asbestos removal -- Most companies begin their asbestos removal by removing carpets, curtains, furniture and accessories from every area that is contaminated with asbestos. After all, they do not want your belongings to become contaminated as well.

The area is then taped off so that it is completely sealed behind large sheets of plastic.

Filtering the air -- While an asbestos removal is going on, the air inside the room where the asbestos is located is being filtered. This is done by having air filters placed into each area, and then having large hoses leading into sealed tanks placed outside the area.

The air filters are on at all times. That way the air is pumped out of the room, while new air comes in, and any escaped fragments of asbestos are removed with the air.

The asbestos removal -- The asbestos is ripped out of any location that it is in, and the location itself thoroughly cleaned.

As the asbestos removal continues, each sheet or fragment of asbestos is placed into garbage bags. These bags are then sealed, removed from the home and transported to the company's facility for the correct disposal.

How long does an asbestos removal take? -- It depends on how much asbestos is in your home, where it is located and if it is large sheets of asbestos or loose-filled asbestos.

The loose-filled type takes much longer to remove as it is always in such small pieces.
